Obituary for Robert E. Anderson

ROCKLAND - Robert Edward Anderson, 95, of Rockland, died Sunday, February 1, 2015. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, January 27, 1920, the son of Harry W. & Elizabeth Meehan Anderson. Robert married Phyllis Mansfield in 1942 at the Congregational Church in Winslow. Robert was a 1937 graduate of Winslow High School and Colby College in 1947. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. After graduating from Colby, he was employed by Central Maine Power Co. as a Rate Specialist, Sylvania Electric Canada Ltd. as District Manager and later as Merchandising Manager, Lighting Products Division of Canada. Upon the death of his father, he returned to Maine and became National Sales Manager for Knox Felts in Camden. He was a member of the National Sales Executive Club of Toronto, Canada, Toronto Board of Trade and U.S. Paper Industry Management Assn., of which he became National Affiliate Chairman. He was also a member of the Rockland Junior Chamber of Commerce, Camden Rotary, Maine Genealogy Society and a life member of the 43rd Infantry Division Veterans Assn. and VFW Post #8835 of Winslow. Surviving are a son, William L. Anderson and his wife Cynthia Hatcher of Palm Coast, FL and Spruce Head; three grandchildren, Joshua, Ryan and Miriam Anderson all of Kansas; sister-in-law, Martha Mansfield Noddin and her husband Larry of Palm Coast, FL and Palermo; sister–in-law, Betty Cox Trahan and her husband Norman of Vassalboro and several nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his parents as well as his wife, Phyllis, to whom he was married for 69 years; his son, Gerry Robert Anderson; brother, Philip Anderson and sister, Louise Anderson Doucette. There will be a committal service at the Howard Cemetery, Winslow, ME at a later date.
