Fapped His Sningers

I am an old Morris Dance friend of John's from his years in and around Boston. I will write more in weeks to come as I remember our times together but I just wanted to send one story that pops to mind since today is the service and I can't be there. As Morris Dancers we would often share rides from Boston/Cambridge out to Western Mass, Vermont, and Upstate New York as well as Maine. On these trips, besides the songs and stories John would tell, he would always insist that I tell him my one funny story. It was a mixed up story of Spoonerisms that I had learned from one listening to Archie Campbell telling it on the old Hee Haw comedy show on TV when I was twelve and could absorb things quickly. It was the story of Cinderella. My version included such Spoonerisms as "fapped his sningers" and "slopped her dripper". John would start laughing from the first word and wouldn't stop laughing uproariously until he was completely out of breath and slapping his thighs. It seemed no matter how many times he insisted I tell that story he laughed like it was the first time he'd heard it. I was young and unsure of myself and John, through just this sort of interaction and attention bolstered my self confidence. He was a friend from moment we met. I live in North Carolina now, where I grew up, but I was visiting in Boston this past week. Last Friday night I had enquired of mutual friends if anyone knew how I might get in touch with him. The next day I got the email about his passing.
