Donald A.  Isikoff
ROCKPORT - Donald A. Isikoff, long time family therapist in the midcoast area, 59, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Born in Washington, DC, September 6, 1949, he was the son of Harry and Sylvia Bonnett Isikoff. He was educated locally and was a 1967 graduate of Northwood High School in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Following graduation Don attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri where he earned both a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Psychology.
Moving to Maine in the mid 1970s, he began work in the mental health field, working at Bancroft in Owls Head. Eventually opening a private practice in 1993 with his friend and co-worker Paul Sobchuck, they began at Broad and Park Street, and later opened Breakwater Counseling at the former Van Baalens building.
An avid outdoorsman, Don enjoyed sailing his sailboat, cross country skiing, hiking and mountain climbing. He was an active member of Trekkers.
Predeceased by his father Harry Isikoff; his mother Sylvia Gorman, Don is survived by his brothers, Nathan Isikoff and his wife, Suzan of New York City, New York; Dr. Michael Isikoff and his wife, Dr. Sharon Isikoff, of Titusville, Florida; nieces and nephews, Erin Klatskin and her husband, Alex, Andrew Isikoff and his wife, Jennifer all of New York City, Alissa Dorfman and her husband, Steven of Chappaqua, New York, Jeremy Isikoff, Amy Newell and her husband, Max all of Brookline, Massachusetts; as well as eight great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral will take place at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2009 at Adas Yoshuron Synagogue, 50 Willow Street, Rockland. Interment will follow at Berliawsky-Small Cemetery, Upper Park Street, Rockland.
