Obituary for Ronald James Moore

BRUNSWICK - Ronald James Moore, went to heaven on Thursday, September 28th, 2017. As the third son of the late Chester and Barbara Ormsby Moore, Ron was born in Brunswick, January 31st, 1953. He was a beloved and cherished son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. Above all, he will be missed as a fully devoted husband to his wife, Dayle C. Moore, the only woman to capture his heart, and as an example of what it means to take care of family, for his children he so loved, Emily A. Gill and Russell J. Moore.
Ronnie attended high school in Camden, graduating in 1971, and was known all his days as a man of tremendous ethics and integrity. While starting his working life early on with jobs such as a bag-boy at Rockland’s First National; gas station attendant in Rockland and for Bob Oxton in Camden; as a plumber’s assistant for Bill Eaton; and cleaning buildings for Dave Landry … none satisfied his true passion, being a master carpenter. He would begin his lifelong career employed by Albert Hoffses as a home builder, then moving on to Maine Coast Construction, where he rose to the position of job foreman and proved his wide expertise whether on homes or steel buildings.
All of these experiences and jobs, however, were to prepare him for something greater, becoming self-employed, which he did while building family homes, raising children and chasing his wife. For nearly twenty years, he proudly provided quality carpentry services to many, many clients in the MidCoast area and always believed a job begun requires a job well done. Eventually, Ron would take a position as Jameson Point Superintendent and Caretaker, a position he proudly held for eleven years. A serious injury would force him into an early retirement, but he never stopped caring for those around him, whether at home or amongst his friends and extended family. Because of his unparalleled knowledge in all aspects of home design and building, he was forever being called to give advice or instructions for everything
from operating farm equipment to electrical issues to anything mechanical, and he forgot more than most people would ever know - except for when it came to fixing computers.
He also had another love: being a fireman. As a fireman for both Rockport and Camden, Ronnie served with conviction and honor, always answering the call during the time he wore the fireman’s patch.
His hobbies included fishing, camping, boating, four-wheeling and snowmobiling, among others. Family was important to him; and that meant beyond his wife and children. He also treated his son-in-law, Gordon, and daughter-in-law, Kassandra, as his own, and thought dearly of cousins and extended family members.
He is predeceased by his parents, Chester and Barbara Moore, and his brother Stanley. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly forty-two years, Dayle, of Brunswick; his daughter Emily and her husband Gordon Gill; son Russell and his wife Kassandra Moore; his brother and sister-in-law, Franklin and Cathy Moore of South Carolina, grandchildren Crista, Christian, Triston, and Dillon Gill all of Rockport; several great-grandchildren and many other relatives, as well as too many special friends and acquaintances to mention. Ronnie also leaves behind his faithful companion that almost never left his side, his lab, Moxie.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the West Rockport Baptist Church on Park Street, a church he helped to build. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rockport Fire Department with any gifts made payable to Pacific Engine Company, P.O. Box 142, Rockport, ME 04856. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
