Obituary for Steven Craig "Steve" Rogers Sr.

Steven Craig "Steve" Rogers Sr.
WARREN – Steven C. Rogers, Sr. 61, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his loving family, following a brave battle with cancer.

Born in Rockland, December 24, 1955 he was the son of Alton and Hilda Taylor Rogers. Educated locally, Steve was a 1974 graduate of Rockland District High.

Following high school, Steve married his soul-mate, best friend and childhood sweetheart, Deborah Young. Starting school together in Kindergarten, the pair continued throughout high school and have made their home in both Rockland and Warren.

Over the years Steve has worked for a number of local companies as a machinist. Most notably, he has held employment with Marine Colloids, Van Baalens, Crowe Rope, Masters Machine and Lie-Nielsen Toolworks.

From a young age Steve has loved anything to do with cars, especially Volkswagens, whether it was working on them, restoring them, or buying them. Along with his wife, he was an active member of the Vacationland Volkswagen Association (VVA) for over 20 years. Most recently Steve has enjoyed drag racing his dune buggy at the 8th Mile in Winterport. This was a passion that began in high school. He had a great love of Harley Davidson Motorcycles and looked forward to every mile on the open road.

Most important in Steve’s life was his family. He loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren, working in the garage with them, teaching them how to weld, and taking them for rides on his motorcycle (when they could reach the pegs of course).

He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Predeceased by his parents, and a brother Leo Rogers; Steve is survived by his wife Deborah of Warren; his sons, Steven Rogers, Jr. and his wife Casey of Arab, Alabama, Adam Rogers and his wife Haley of Rockland; his brothers, Kendall Rogers and his wife Dena of Warren, Russell Rogers of Waldoboro; four grandchildren, Kaylee, Everett, Aisling, and Izabella Rogers; as well as a step-grandson Stephen Dearborn; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Monday, January 9, 2016 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 6:30. Te Reverend Wayne Sawyer will officiate.
