Obituary for Arthur E. "Artie" Henry

Arthur E. "Artie" Henry
WARREN – Arthur ‘Artie’ E. Henry, 69, passed away following a long illness Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the VA Maine Togus Healthcare System Hospice. Artie was born June 27, 1947 to Walter and Elizabeth Fales Henry in Rockland. He was a graduate of Georges Valley High School, class of 1965, and a Vietnam War Veteran, having served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969. He married Theresa T. Burns on March 30, 1974. Arthur and Theresa made their home in Warren, where they happily raised their family. Arthur worked most of his career as a heavy equipment mechanic with Art Henry Crane Service in Thomaston. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Disabled American Veterans, and the Williams -Brazier American Legion Post No. 37, Thomaston.
Artie is survived by both of his parents; his wife of 42 years, Theresa Henry of Warren; his children, Andrew A. and his wife Deirdre Henry of Wildwood, Missouri, Arnold E. of South Berwick, and Amanda Nickles and her husband Dwight of Warren; six grandchildren, Alexis, Damian, Kolby, Hunter, Carly, and Payton; two sisters and their husbands, Patricia and Charles Monroe of Warren, Beth and Dave Edwards of Sanger, California; his uncle Arthur Henry; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and his ever faithful dog, Stormy.
Artie was a devoted husband and father who built the family home from the ground up, maintained a meticulous and never-ending yard that grew a little more each year. He prided himself on doing everything personally, and would research any skill he had yet to master. Artie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; they hold forever in their hearts the random drives and walks around Togus, and helping him with yardwork. Family and friends will always fondly remember the breezy summer days at the family camp watching Artie meticulously make his way around the mud flats, digging to gather clams for anyone interested in standing around the steam pot to enjoy a communal clam feast. Artie was an often quiet, humble man who incited roars of laughter when he chose to speak up. As the local stories go he was also known to “raise hell” on occasion when he was in the presence of lifelong local friends. You all know who you are... Many stories have been shared over the last couple of weeks and we ask that everyone continues sharing those stories to keep the memories of this great man alive.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held 1:00pm, Tuesday November 22, 2016 at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
