The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Parker Laite can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Feisty to the End

It didn't take long after my moving to Camden in 1991, after a long career "away", to run into Parker and his wit and feistiness, thanks to his expansive and exhaustive presence in almost everything that went on in my new home town. Our favorite joint activity was arguing about the finer points of whatever political controversies were current at the time. We often agreed, but with Parker it was always more fun to disagree, and I think he felt the same way.

The last time I saw him was May 21 at the Camden Deli which we both frequented on Saturday mornings, Parker as a member of a weekly coffee group there. Hearing that he'd been in the hospital after some especially devastating chemotherapy, I walked over to ask him how he was. He saw me coming and hastily put on a Donald Trump wig and a "Make America Great Again" red hat to cover his head, now bald from the chemo. I still tear up a little when I think of it.

I think St. Peter is looking forward to having a long and hilarious argument with Parker about whether he merits entry into Heaven, before finally letting him in.
