Obituary for Steven W. Steeves

Steven W. Steeves
ROCKLAND – Steven W. Steeves, 39, died unexpectedly at home, surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, May 9, 1976, he was the youngest child and only son born to Wayne and Carlene Walker Steeves. Steve spent the first part of his life in Massachusetts where he attended grammar school in Randolph. During his first year of high school, he moved with his family to Rockland. He attended Rockland District High School until the spring of his senior year, when the draw of the sea was too much for him to resist. He followed his heart and his passion and began his career on the water as a fisherman. Steve felt at home on the water; it brought him the peace and solace his soul long for. He was proud to have worked on scallop boats out of New Bedford, lobstered out of his ‘second home’, Port Clyde with Capt. Chadwick, J & J Lobster and most recently with Heath Curtis. His family said he loved to tell ‘fishing stories’ and talk about his work. He dreamed of one day fishing in Alaska on a king crab boat.

Together with his father, Steve spent countless hours outdoors, hunting, cutting trees to sell as firewood, and ice fishing. His family was his world and they were always on his mind. He loved family gatherings; especially spending time with his great-nephew, Liam.

Steve’s infections smile and great sense of humor made him the life of the party. He never met a person who didn’t like him immediately and he made friends easily wherever he went. He was fiercely loyal to his friends and family and would do anything to help someone in need.

He was a great cook and loved spending time helping at the family’s restaurant, The Rockland Café. Never one too be lazy he was always working or keeping busy with a project. He was a talented artist and created many beautiful pencil drawings.

He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Predeceased by his maternal grandmother Arlene Wadsworth; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Steeves; and a niece Deanna Wadsworth; Steven is survived by his parents Wayne and Carla Steeves; his son Bradley Richard Steeves of Rockland; his sisters, Shawna Steeves of East Bridgewater, MA, Charla Prescott and her companion Harold Doak of Rockland; Darlene Gleba and her husband John of Owls Head, Tammy Willette and her husband Shawn of Rockland; his nieces and nephews, Nichole McNeil, Kenny McNeil, Donald Prescott, Christopher Prescott, Makayla Gleba, Kyle Gleba, Erica Willette, Shawn Willette; a great nephew Liam Prescott; his maternal grandfather George Walker of Rockland; his dear friends, Christopher Chadwick and Ken Wooster; his ‘Port Clyde Family’, and too many friends to count.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 18, 2016 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland; where a celebration of Steven’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016. Pastor Jeff Sprous will officiate.
