Condolence: Don't know what made me think of Alayne today but I decided to "Google" her and learned that she passed away almost four years ago. Alayne placed me in my first really decent job at Atlantic Records, which gave me the experience to land even better opportunities after I moved to Boston in late 1977. (I live in Rhode Island now.) I continued to visit Alayne in her NY offices whenever I returned to the city, and we always shared laughs over lunch. I recall her raspy voice, pointed sarcasm (never mean-spirited) and her beloved grey parrot, Chester. We faithfully exchanged cards and gifts at Christmas for many years but lost touch as time passed and I went back to NY less often. It seems curious that Alayne spent her last years in Maine, possibly in the Penobscot Bay area which I love. My wife and I go up to Camden every September to celebrate my birthday and hope to do likewise this year. Alayne was sui generis, and I know she is fondly remembered and missed by all who knew her. -- Bill
