Obituary for Eleanor Tyler (Ames)

SEARSMONT - Eleanor Ames Tyler, 94, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at her son’s Wiscasset home, where she has resided the past several months.
Born in Rockland, October 17, 1919, she was one of five children of Captain Stewart T. and Mary Baum Ames. Educated in local schools, she was a 1937 graduate of Rockland High School.
October 26, 1947, she married Edwin Hawes Tyler at Camden.
The couple made their home at Clark Island in St. George, for many years.
From 1970 to 1980, Mrs. Tyler served as Secretary at the St. George Elementary School.
Upon Mr. Tyler’s retirement in 1980, the couple became ‘Snow Birds’, spending winter months in Florida and summer months at Clark Island.
Regardless of where they were living, the Tylers enjoyed establishing close friendships and committed themselves to nurturing those relationships.
Mrs. Tyler was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge.
For many years, she was a member of Peoples United Methodist Church in South Thomaston. After moving to Searsmont, she has been a member of Searsmont United Methodist Church.
In August of 2012, Mrs. Tyler was honored to be the recipient of the Searsmont Boston Post Gold Cane.
She was accomplished at knitting, crocheting and craft work.
Besides her beloved husband of 68 years, Edwin of Searsmont, Mrs. Tyler is survived by three sons and their wives, Stephen M., Sr. and Patricia Jarrett, of Wiscasset, Glidden O. and Beverly Tyler of Bremen, James R. and Patricia Tyler of Searsmont; one daughter, Barbara Boss and her husband Keith of New Port Richey, FL; ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M., Monday, August 4, 2014, at Peoples United Methodist Church, Chapel Street, South Thomaston, where a funeral service will begin at 1:00 P.M. The Reverend George Hodgkins and The Reverend Michelle Wiley will officiate. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bob Gagnon Cancer Care Fund, C/O Pen Bay Healthcare, 22 White Street, Rockland, 04841, or Kno-Wal-Lin Homecare & Hospice, 170 Pleasant Street, Rockland, ME 04841.
