THOMASTON - Richard R. Robinson, ‘Peanut’, 67, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at his Beechwood Street home.

Born in Rockland, May 21, 1946, he was one of 16 children born to Ernest, Sr. and Bertha Winslow Robinson. He grew up in Thomaston, and graduated from Georges Valley High School in 1964.

Following graduation, Richard began his long working career, first with Thomaston Steele Works working along side his father, and later moving to Martin Marietta Corporation. There he served as Vice President and President of the Union. After 15 years of service there, Richard worked as a welder at Steele Pro in Rockland. For 20 years he was employed with the Town of Thomaston as Pollution Control Manager.
Always active, he took great pride in his vegetable gardens, especially when he could get out and about, delivering the extra fruits of his labor to friends and neighbors. He was well known for his homemade mustard pickles and is remembered as an excellent cook.

He loved spending time outdoors enjoying many fishing trips and trips to Moosehead. He was a proclaimed New York Yankee’s fan, and loved to wear his New York hat proudly, mostly to rile up his friends. His family said, regardless of the hat he wore, they believed, deep down he was a true Boston Red Sox fan.
Above all, Richard enjoyed the love of family. Spending time with them was his number one priority. His children and grandchildren were his whole world.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Predeceased by his parents, three sisters, Vivian Mansfield, Katherine Schwab, Deborah Brochu; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Audrey Robinson; and a long-time friend, Dick Mank; Richard is survived by his son Andrew Robinson of Thomaston; his daughter Mary Ann Friesen and her husband Mike of Goldvein, Virginia; his brothers and their wives, Percy and Gail Robinson, William, Sr. and Beverly Robinson, Ernest, Jr. and Sharon Robinson, all of Thomaston, Douglas Robinson and his companion Geraldine Wall of Warren, Gregory ‘Amoe’ and Lura Robinson of Friendship, Randall Robinson of Union; his sisters and their husbands, Patricia Stone, Lista and Eugene Colson all of Thomaston, Darlene and Otto Miller, Carrie Nelson, Janice and Ted Cotton, all of Warren; grandchildren, Amanda and her companion Aaron, Logan, Colton, Brittany; one great-grandbaby due in October; many nieces and nephews; as well as a long-time friend, John Melquist of South Thomaston. The family is especially grateful to his hospice nurse, Jackie Sanborn, for her excellent care.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2014 at Thomaston Baptist Church, Main Street, Thomaston, The Reverend Wayne Sawyer will officiate. Interment will take place in the spring at Village Cemetery, Thomaston.
