Obituary for Roger L. Jones

Roger L.  Jones
ST. GEORGE - Roger Leroy Jones, 70, of St. George died suddenly in the early morning hours at his home in St. George on Tuesday, December 17, 2013.
Born in Rockland, Maine on August 4, 1943, he was the son of Leroy Alden and Elizabeth Olive Heard Jones. He attended school in Owls Head and Rockland High School; after which he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Seaman 1st Class on the ‘USS Diamond Head’. He was honorably discharged in 1967. Returning home and getting married, he chose to become a commercial fisherman, fishing out of Rockland, New Bedford and Gloucester, Massachusetts until ill health forced his retirement.
Roger was predeceased by his parents, wife and brother, Glenn Jones plus his two Doberman dogs, ‘Cody’ and ‘Mason’ that he loved dearly.
Roger is survived by his partner and soul mate of 10½ years, Marion Gleason from Skowhegan, who he met many years ago. They both had married, as time went on, they both lost their spouses in 2002, and by the grace of God, they were reunited and became soul mates again and had a wonderful life together.
Roger is also survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Campbell; two grandsons, Derik Campbell and Darren Campbell both of Brampton, ON, Canada; a son, Nathan Jones of Portland, a stepson Lloyd Gray; cousin, Eleanor Nash of South Thomaston; and dear friends, Lance and Kathy Wotton of Friendship. Roger is also survived by Marion’s family, who loved him dearly and he was called ‘Daddy Rog’.
Many good times were had with them, Cathy and Jeff VandenHeuvel, Lee and Carolyn Hutchinson, and Jeff, Jodi and Joshua Michaud, as well as his dear cat ‘Tabby’. He will be missed by them very much. Roger made many friends in the Skowhegan area and was liked by all who met him. He will be missed by his friends in the Rockland area, too.
Roger loved life! Hunting, fishing, smelting, going to auctions, long rides, eating out, playing pool, beano and shopping.There will be a graveside service in the spring at the Jones family lot at Achorn Cemetery in Rockland.
