a tribute to Peggy

****We lost a dear friend and coworker last weekend. Peggy Yattaw lost her battle with cancer on Sunday Sept.9th, 2012. She fought the cancer as she lived her life; with strength, dignity, humor and the support of her loving husband Al, her huge family and her many friends. She will be missed by so many people. The Owls Head residents will miss not only her caring and professional caregiving but her child-like glee in entertaining them with off-key singing and hula dancing. Charlie used to say "Boy she sure can wiggle!" She was such a life force and that energy and humor was never ending. Her coworkers and friends will miss her hard work ethic and her wicked and dry sense of humor. They may not miss Peggy jumping out from behind doors to see them jump in the air with fright. And in pure Peggy fashion, then innocently say, "What? I didn't mean to scare you." One day she hid in the supply room by the kitchen waiting for Donna Jillson to come in so she could scare her. Donna had things to carry in from her car and took longer than expected. Well, Peggy forgot she was hiding at all. So when Donna came around the corner Peggy yelped and jumped in fright. Then had a good laugh because she had remembered SHE was the one who was suppose to do the scaring. There are so many funny Peggy stories. Too many to fill this small space. She loved to laugh and make others laugh, even at her own expense. One day, knowing that Monica collected pig things, Peggy started to harass Monica by saying how much she loved bacon and pork. After hearing this, Monica and I were talking and the PLA (Pig Lovers Assoc.) was born. I made up a "wanted poster" with Peggys photo and description on it.I printed several posters and then we hung them all over the homestead, waiting for her to come in to work and see them. When she came in though she never noticed any of them! When we finally pointed them out to her she spoke her infamous saying "Oh-My-Stars!" and then laughed. Not only at the posters but at the fact she hadn't seen any of them. *******Peggy had many loves. Her husband Al, her children and her huge family were number one in her life. She truly appreciated her friends and especially those who stepped up and helped her through these last several months. Like Monica cooking and baking for her, especially her cinnamon rolls (with raisins of course) And Brooklyn for helping her clean her home .And Kerry for visiting and keeping her company. And Joanne for sending Peggy a card every week. And then there's Donna Jillson who went on two trips to Vegas with Peggy as well as drove Peggy anywhere she needed to go. Donna and I had the privilege of taking Peggy to her cancer treatments each week. We also took her shopping and to lunch to entertain and distract her a bit. During one of these outings Peggy had a great meal but said it was ruined by the poor service. After discussing this we came up with a restaurant comment card idea to be able to leave our opinions after the meal. I designed a card and we started leaving them at every restaurant from Rockland to Augusta to Bangor. *******Peggy also loved her "story" The Young and the Restless and watched it faithfully every day. She and I shared the love of a few TV shows like Dancing with the Stars. After DWTS she would call me and we'd discuss the show.I'm really going to miss that. She loved Sponge Bob and considered Anderson Cooper her "boyfriend." Peggy loved the holidays. Especially Christmas, which was evident by the many decorations in almost every room of her home. While helping her decorate her tree one year I told her I was amazed at the number of theme ornaments she had. She said she had many more boxes in storage in storage. Wow. *********I've learned a lot from Peggy by watching how she lived her life. I learned to believe in myself. I learned to fight for what's right and for the underdog. I learned that you can't change people only how you react to those people. I learned to sing out loud like no one can hear you, to dance like no one is watching and to live life as if it's heaven on earth. Thank you Peggy for always listening and for being such a wonderful and supportive friend. Thank you for being a great teacher and a lovely human being.I am so blessed to have had the pleasure to be your friend. I, like so many, will carry your joyous spirit and memory with me always. ~ Michelle Cmar **********************************************~ (Friends of Peggy will be planning a get together later on to celebrate Peggy's life) ~
