Obituary for Robert Wade Richardson

Robert Wade  Richardson
ROCKLAND - Robert W. Richardson, 64, died at his home, Sunday, January 29, 2012, following an extended illness.
Born in Rockland, February 17, 1947, he was the son of Harry H. and Linnie Rivers Richardson. Educated in local schools he was a 1965 graduate of Rockland High School.
May 3rd, 1966, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. His service took him to Vietnam, where he was attached as a Medic with the 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines Division. At the time of his discharge on October 31, 1969, he was recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Purple Heart Medal for wounds he received on April 30, 1968, while treating the wounded and injured on the battlefield.
Returning to civilian life, Bob served as a caregiver to his grandmother until her death. He later worked several years as a Certified Nurses Assistant at Augusta Mental Health Institute.
Bob loved shopping and collecting. He took great pleasure in giving flowers every Christmas to the people he traded with downtown. He enjoyed many good times at the Black Bull Tavern where he was honored with a barstool engraved with his name.
A friend to many, Bob enjoyed a longtime special friendship with Brenda Stelmark of Massachusetts, was a friend to William ‘Bill’ O’Brien, Jr. who resided at his home, and had a close friendship with his neighbors, Joe and Heidi Bueno.
He was a longtime member of the Finn/Am Society and Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion Post No. 1, Rockland.
Other than his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother Steven E. Richardson, Sr. in 2010. He is survived by two nephews, Steven E. Richardson, Jr. and his companion Rachel Alden, Shane Richardson and his wife Jane; his sister-in-law, Diana ‘Rene’ Richardson; a great nephew, Steven E. Richardson, III; a great niece, Haley Richardson; and one great-great niece, Isabella Richardson, all of South Thomaston.
At Mr. Richardson’s direction, no services will be held.
