Rev. Lawrence E. Heard Obituary (1934

PORTSMOUTH, NH - Rev. Lawrence Elmer Heard, age 80, oldest son of James Elmer and Edith Elizabeth Raye Heard died Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Clipper Harbor Center in Portsmouth, NH. Rev. Heard was born April 4, 1934 at Rockland, Maine. He attended elementary school in Owls Head at Ash Point and Rockland High School, graduating in 1952. In the mid-fifties, he studied for the ministry at Zion Bible Institute, now Northpoint Bible College, Haverhill, MA. He was an ordained minister in good standing, with the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. In his sixty years of ministry, Rev. Heard founded Calvary Tabernacle, now Cornerstone Ministries, Rockland, ME, and Galilean Gospel Temple, Stonington, ME. He also pastored several other churches throughout the eastern United States. "Captain Larry" became a by-word upon the lips of many children through 'Kids Krusade' which he successfully conducted as well. Many children committed their lives to Christ through this ministry. Retiring from active ministry in 2010, Pastor Heard resided at Portsmouth, NH until his passing. He is survived by his two children, Elaine Carol Heard King and her husband, Joseph of Milo, ME, Christopher Lawrence Heard and wife Patricia of Albion, ME; three grandchildren, Allyson LaPoint, Daniel and Rachel Heard; a brother, Rev. James F. Heard and wife Barbara of Ellsworth, ME; one special cousin, Electa Ruth Wood Cerce and husband Rev. Steven Cerce of Camden, ME; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Special thanks is extended to the staff of Clipper Harbor for their kind, understanding and thoughtful care for Pastor Heard, as he was affectionately referred to by the staff. Rev. Heard's heart beat was winning souls for Jesus Christ. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that Day..." (2 Timothy 4: 7 & 8 NKJ).
