Maxwell Oliver, Sr. Obituary (1915

C - Maxwell "Bill" E. Oliver, Sr., 90, died Monday, January 2, 2006 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center after an extended period of declining health.Born in Lubec, February 8, 1915, he was one of eight children of John W. and Sarah McMahon Oliver. After moving to Rockland at an early age, Bill was educated in local schools.During World War II, he was employed in the war effort at Bath Iron Works. Most of his career he enjoyed as a lobsterman, fishing in the Muscle Ridge aboard his boat, "Virginia". His wife Virginia J. Rackliff Oliver served as his stern-lady until the time of his retirement at the age of 89.The last of eight siblings, Bill is survived by his wife of 69 years; his daughter Margaret O. Hilt and her husband Donald, Jr. all of Rockland; three sons William A. "Bill" Oliver and his wife Peggy of South Thomaston, Maxwell E. "Max" Oliver, Jr. and dear friend Eileen Beckett of Rockland, Charles L. Oliver, Sr. and dear friend Marlene Crosby of Spruce Head; two grandchildren Karen Oliver-Aylard and her husband Douglas of Columbia, SC, Charles Oliver, Jr., and his wife Brandi of Rockland as well as several nieces and nephews.Visiting hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday at Achorn Cemetery, Rockland. Please use the Lake Avenue Cemetery entrance.
