John Wood

–

Rockland, Maine

ROCKLAND - John H. Wood, 82, beloved husband of K. Kelly Walker, died peacefully at his home with his twin brother and spouse at his side following a period of declining health.
Born January 5, 1943 in Corvallis, Oregon, John was the son of Howard W. and Virgina C. Moody Wood. Educated locally, John graduated high school, later earning a Bachelors degree in Recreation and Physical Education from the University of Oregon before earning his Masters in Physical Education from Oregon State University. Next John earned his Master of Fine Arts in Theater from Oregon State.
Later John moved to Philadelphia following his marriage to Kathy. There he served as director of Parks and Recreation for Montgomery County. While living in Philadelphia, John nurtured his love of acting, participating in the 'Little Barn Theater, in Chestnut Hill. With the encouragement of his fellow actors, John furthered his education, earning a Masters of Fine Arts in Theater from Temple University.
After John and Kathy divorced, John relocated to New York to pursue his acting career. It was here that he met his soul mate and best-friend, Kelly Walker while working on commercials, soap operas and a theater production or two. He was also a talented singer, singing in a local nightclub, a passion he carried with him throughout his life. He was active in many of the communities in which he lived, including in Maine with the DownEast Singers.
In 2000 John traveled to Maine for an art workshop and he fell in love with Mid-Coast Maine. Although he continued to travel back and forth, his heart belonged to Maine, and in 2008, he and Kelly moved her permanently to their beloved home on Masonic Street. They officially tied the knot on August 23, 2014, and have spent many happy years together, restoring, decorating, gardening and beautifying their home. An exceptionally talented artist, his home is adorned with many beautiful paintings, as is the Art Space Co-Op and several other local galleries, where he exhibits beautiful portraits in watercolor and oils.
John's passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who loved him. He will be deeply missed.
John is survived by his spouse, Ken Kelly Walker of Rockland; his twin brother James Wood and his partner Ann of Corvallis, Oregon; his sister, Jean Paulsen and her husband Dainard of Yakama, Washington; as well as several nieces and nephews (including another set of twins, which run in his family).
A memorial service in celebration of John's life will be announced.
