ST. GEORGE - Jaceil Marie (Johnston-Burgess) Sheldon, 68, passed peacefully into Heaven on Tuesday, June 28, 2021 to be with God, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born April 16 1953, the youngest daughter of Carleton L. and Marilyn Alura (Burgess) Johnston. Jaceil and her siblings were wards of the state of Maine when their mother died of Tuberculosis in November of 1955. Jaceil spent fourteen years on Birch Crest Cow Farm in Kenduskeag. She went to Central High School in East Corinth.
On May 20, 1986, she married the love of her life, Malcolm S. Sheldon in Warren. Their wedding was officiated by Rev. William Hatfield. Together they made their home in Thomaston. Jaceil continued her nursing education throughout the years, as a CNA, LPN, and later earned her Associate Degree as a Registered Nursing in 2003. She worked in nursing throughout the Midcoast area in local boarding and nursing homes, hospitals, and with Pediatric Nursing Agencies.
For many years Jaceil has spent time putting together her family tree (Johnston-Burgess Family Tree) on Ancestry.com. She has enjoyed learning more about her family and what she missed growing up as a ward of the state.
She had a quiet, gentle, optimistic, yet realistic personality. In the spring of 2018, she lost most of her vision in her left eye due to Maxillary Sinus (a tumor that grew in back of her left eye) Cancer. She received excellent care, radiation and chemotherapy, at the Harold Alfond Cancer Care Center in Augusta. Later, tests showed bilateral lung cancer that metastasis to her liver, and she was placed on Palliative Care. Even through her long and arduous treatment she remained loving and positive. She will be sadly missed.
Jaceil is survived by her husband Malcolm Sheldon; son Matthew Burgess and his wife Meredith (Jones) and their two children, Sage & Chloe, all of Maine; two step-sons, Greg Sheldon and his wife Hessie and their two children, Leyla & Luke of Massachusetts, Mark Sheldon and his wife Deirdre Smith of Maine; nephews, Cory and Troy Dyer and their families of Maine; niece Marsha (Thibodeau) Willett and her husband Tony and their three children in Maine.
Jaceil was predeceased in death by her parents Carl and Marilyn; siblings, Marilyn 'Bunny' in 1979, Carleton, Jr. in 2007, Gerald in 2010; and a daughter Misty V. Burgess Hathorne.
There will be no funeral or memorial reception for Jaceil, per her request. Burial will be at the family's convenience, in the family plot, at Sawyer Cemetery in Warren, Maine.
