ROCKLAND – It is with great sadness that the family of Hollis H. Duswald, 48, announces his passing on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
Hollis was born in Rockport on June 18, 1978, the youngest son of Ronald Sr. and Marie (Vicelich) Duswald. He was educated in Rockland schools and spent most of his life in the Mid-Coast area.
A lifelong gearhead and wrench turner, Hollis worked as a mechanic and was known for his skill. His true passion was driving tow trucks, which he did for several years. Most recently, he was part of the grounds crew at the Rockland Cemetery Association, where he took pride in helping maintain the grounds of local cemeteries.
Away from work, Hollis enjoyed a good meal, a snack, or both. He could often be found wandering into the kitchen while his sister-in-law was cooking, asking what smelled so good. He was proud to have earned his motorcycle license and went for a ride whenever his brother's Harley was available to borrow.
Known by many as a big teddy bear, Hollis was, above all, devoted to his daughter, Elizabeth, his pride and joy and the center of his life.
His passing leaves a big hole in the hearts of all who loved him.
Predeceased by his father, Ronald Duswald, Sr.; Hollis is survived by his mother, Marie Duswald of Rockland; his brothers, Anthony Vicelich and his wife Jenny of Rockland, Luke Broderick and his wife Laura of Hawaii, Ronald Duswald, Jr. of Rockland, Adam Duswald of Atlanta, Georgia; his daughter, Elizabeth Duswald and her mother Lauren Curtis of Hope; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and a large loving extended family.
Those who would like to pay their respects to Hollis and his family are invited to South End Beach, near the El Farro Salute Monument where his family will receive guests on, Saturday October 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m..
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
