Elwyn Abbott "Al" Chadbourne Sr. Obituary (1926

SOUTH THOMASTON - Elwyn A. 'Al' Chadbourne, Sr., 86, husband of the late Mildred 'Mickey' Frye Chadbourne, died Monday, January 14, 2013, at Quarry Hill in Camden, following an extended illness. Born in Farmingdale, November 25, 1926, he was one of four children of E. Leroy and Ida Gowen Chadbourne. Growing up in the Gardiner area, he attended local schools. Al was a U.S. Army, World War II veteran. While home on leave from the military, he met a pretty girl who was waitressing at a restaurant he frequented. That waitress was Mildred 'Mickey' Frye, and after a brief courtship, the couple married at Rockport, October 7, 1949. Upon return from military duty, Al worked a brief time with his father-in-law as a builder. The Chadbourne's made their first permanent home in Jonesport. They later moved to Rockland, where Al worked more than 25 years with the Elgin Corporation which later became Marine - Colloids FMC. In 1965, the family moved to the 'Keag at South Thomaston, where Al and Mickey resided until returning to Rockland in 2007. Since that time Al lived with his daughter in Rockport, until moving to Quarry Hill in Camden. With his wife, Al enjoyed frequent rides up-town to do grocery shopping, and during the summer months, that trip always included a stop at Dornan's Dairy Dream for Al's favorite, chocolate ice cream. They also enjoyed trips to Florida, New York and Connecticut to visit family. Al particularly enjoyed watching TV. Other than his parents and siblings Horace, Ernest and Eva, Al was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Mickey, November 14, 2011. He is survived by two daughters, Sandra L. Pushaw and her husband Gerald of Rockport, Helen M. Collins of St. George; two sons, Tim A. Chadbourne of Warren, Elwyn A. 'Butch' Chadbourne, Jr. and his wife Alice of Rockland; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Village Cemetery, Dublin Road, South Thomaston.
