Dolores "Dolly" McLain

–

Rockland, Maine

THOMASTON - Dolores "Dolly" J. McLain, 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Sussman House in Rockport.
Born in Rockland on January 13, 1932, she was the daughter of Albert L. Cassidy and Florence Ames Mears. She attended local schools until graduating from Rockland High School in 1950.
Dolly lived and worked around the MidCoast area for several years before moving to Chicago, Il. in 1961. While residing in Chicago she worked at the Sunbeam Corporation in the manufacturing field. In 1968, after moving back to Maine, Dolly married her husband of 54 years George McLain on May 31, 1969, at the Congregational Church in Rockland.
She was the happy face that you would see at the counter at the Camden Bakery for many years until their closing in the 1980's. Dolly then moved on to work for Reid's Gift Shop in Warren until her retirement in 1994. She was a hard worker who enjoyed the many different places she had the opportunity to work over the years.
Dolly was a very family-oriented person. She was always looking out for her family, especially her two boys. She was known to be a wonderful cook and a fantastic baker. Her dog Jack meant the world to her; she loved animals, and they loved her back. A crossword puzzle extraordinaire, Dolly was known for finishing at least one, if not more, crossword puzzle books every week.
Other than her parents she was predeceased by her brothers, Donald Cassidy, LeRoy Cassidy, and John Cassidy. She is survived by her husband of 54 years George McLain; her sons, Edward Hastings and his companion Tracey of Thomaston, and Marston Hastings of Granada, Spain; one granddaughter, Lisa Lynn of Rockland; one great grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate or Pope Memorial Humane Society, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, Maine 04841.
