ROCKPORT - David Merton Emerson, 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 11, 2021 at his home in Rockport.
David was born on May 18, 1948, in Hallowell Maine. The son of the late James, and Marjorie (Flagg) Emerson.
David's family settled in Waldoboro after moving to and from various places thanks to his father's work as a Minister.
After graduating from Waldoboro High School in 1968, David enlisted in the United States Navy. After completing Builder Class "A" School he was assigned to the United States Naval Construction Battalion, (Seabees). He was honorably discharged in 1980 after 12 years of service with the rank and rate of E-5, BU2 (Builder, Second Class Petty Officer). During his time in the service, he completed Masonry School, Defensive Driving School, and earned qualifications in heavy construction, planning estimates and scheduling, and concrete mixing, placing, and finishing. He also received the following awards; M-16 Rifle Marksman, the Navy "E" ribbon, two Good Conduct Medals and the National Defense Service Medal.
Once he was out of the service David spent 34 years working different construction jobs, which included building his families first house. When David moved to Rockland, he started work with the City of Rockland and retired after fifteen years of working at the dump. After he retired, he took on various driving jobs to keep himself busy.
David had a love for the New York Yankees and really enjoyed when they won against the Boston Red Sox. If he wasn't home enjoying the sports he loved, then he was enjoying his family coming to visit him.
His other big love was bowling. If he wasn't home, it was a good bet you could find him at the bowling alley. If he wasn't there, then you could find him relaxing at his home with his wife Charlotte and his cats.
Predeceased by his parents, his brothers Larry, Randy, and Peter Emerson, and his sister Janet Sigars, he is survived by his loving wife of 27 years Charlotte (Nute) of Rockport; his sons, Ernest Emerson of Belfast; David Emerson and his Fiance Michaela Long of Rockland; his daughter Crystal Young and her husband Ian of Waldoboro; his step-son Rob Milliken and his wife Robin of Union; his Grandchildren, Joseph, Hannah, Paige, David III, Cyndal, Dakota, Mavrick, Robbie, and Scott, his great grandchildren, Leo, Easton, Karma, Damien and Sarah, his brothers, Jim Emerson of Farmington; Terry Emerson and his wife Elaine of Friendship; and Rusty Emerson and his wife Paula of Waldoboro; his brother in-law Stanley Sigars of Waldoboro; his sisters in-law Barbra Emerson of Rockland; Sandy Emerson of Waldoboro; and many nieces and nephews.
