Charles Siletti

OWL'S HEAD - Charles F. Siletti, 91, died Monday, September 11, 2023 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport surrounded by family.
Born in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, October 1, 1931, he was the son of Aldo Charles Siletti and Helen Boylan Siletti. The family moved to Lisbon, Maine when Charlie was young. There Charlie or Sonny as he was known, shared his father's love of hunting, fishing and sports. He graduated from Lisbon High School. He attended the University of Maine at Orono, where he was active in ROTC, boxing, and glee club. He graduated in 1953 with a Bachelors Degree in Engineering. His ROTC commitment took him to Alaska where he supervised the installation of communication lines.
His early work in engineering and construction took him all over the world. On February 10, 1961, Charlie married another Lisbon HS graduate, Arlene Barron. In 1966 Charlie traded world travel for a career at Marine Colloids/FMC and a home in Owl's Head, adding scuba diving and boating to his avocations. The quest for seaweed kept him travelling around the world. Charlie retired from FMC in 1997, but he continued as a valued consultant for many years. He also applied his energies and engineering skills in service to the community he loved and still found time to ski, skate and cycle. He was active in the Rotary, Meals on Wheels, and on airport and town planning committees.
Predeceased by his two sisters, Laura Siletti Hale and Jean Siletti Caron; Charles is survived by his wife, Arlene Siletti of Owl's Head; his sons, Charles Siletti and wife Jean Ver Hoeven of Concord, NH, Paul Siletti and wife Madeleine of Saudi Arabia and Owl's Head; his four grandchildren, Cheta, Daniel, Luca and Anna Siletti; as well as many nieces and nephews.
