ROCKLAND - Carolyn B. Richards Johnson, 88, died peacefully with her beloved husband at her side on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Breakwater Commons in Rockland.
Born October 8, 1937, in Effingham, Illinois, to Virgil and Mearle Richards, Carolyn devoted her professional life to healing others. After earning her doctorate in psychology, she established her own practice and spent decades guiding patients through their struggles with compassion and insight. Even years after her retirement, former patients would seek her out to express their gratitude, sharing how profoundly she had changed their lives.
Carolyn embraced life with remarkable breadth and enthusiasm. She raised alpacas on her own farm, showing them competitively and transforming their fiber into exquisite hand-knitted creations with the meticulous attention to detail that defined everything she did. She earned her pilot's license and flew solo into Miami International Airport. She braved Maine's frozen lakes for ice fishing. As a co-founder of the MidCoast Community Band, she brought joy to audiences throughout the region, her French horn resonating from the brass section.
In 2005, Carolyn married Alton Johnson, her soulmate and the love of her life. Their union was marked by deep devotion, shared adventures, and countless cherished memories.
Carolyn's curiosity, courage, and commitment to living fully touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be profoundly missed.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 31, 2025 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock street, Rockland. She will be laid to rest with her parents in Orlando, FL at a later date.2d:{
