Age 86 Birthplace New Britain, PA Resident of Rockland, ME Celebration of His LifeTwo O'Clock in the AfternoonTuesday, May 28, 2002West Rockport Baptist ChurchPark StreetRockport, MaineROCKLAND - Al Troester, 86, of Rockland, Maine entered the presence of his Lord Jesus, May 22nd following a brief stay at the Shore Village Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.Best known through most of his life as Al, he was born Adolph Troester March 4, 1916, son of the late Max and Luisa Troester in New Britian, Pennsylvania.He was the husband of Eileen Bell Troester for over 52 years and father of one son; Gary and his wife, Venila of Somerville, Maine, two daughters, Karen Wiersma and her husband, David of Chatsworth, Georgia, and Beth Troester, a missionary in Moscow, Russia. He will also be missed by his remaining siblings, Dorothy Grossman and Bertha Hellyer of Doylestown, Pennsylvania as well as eleven grandchildren. Four siblings, Max, Frank, Madeline, and Marie died previously.Al attended schools in New Britian, Pennsylvania. At the age of sixteen, Al came to an understanding of the reality that he was a sinner in need of a Savior and placed his faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. His one great desire throughout his life was that others also come to know his Savior and the many whom he led to Christ look to Him as their spiritual Father. After attending Bible School, College and Seminary, Al began a ministry that spanned over fifty years. He began as an evangelist, traveling the East coast and Canada. It was in Canada that he met and married his wife in September of 1949. He then pastored churches in Delmar, Delaware and Moncton, New Brunswick. In 1960 he became the Academic Dean and a Bible Teacher at Glen Cove Bible College, Glen Cove, Maine. Following sixteen years at the college he and Eileen traveled together for nearly twenty years in an itinerant ministry know as Troester Bible Teaching Ministries. Even though stricken with Alzheimer's the last few years of his life, the desire to preach and minister to others remained.Al often expressed a desire to be preaching in the pulpit when he died. That did not happen: However, he wrote a book, "Walking on the Water", which blessed many in English. Then his daughter Beth had it translated into Russian. This book is effectively continuing his preaching ministry. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to honor Al's memory, by having additional copies his book, "Walking on Water", printed in Russian. Donations may be mailed c/o West Rockport Baptist Church, POB 221, West Rockport, Maine 04865.Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at West Rockport Baptist Church, Park Street, West Rockport. An hour of visitation will be held prior to the service. Reverend Gary Troester will officiate.
