SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
ROCKLAND - A graveside service for C. Burnett Young, who died February 13, 2011,
will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 7th, at Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland. The Reverend Branan Becknell will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
ROCKLAND - Charlotte Burnett Young, 76, died Sunday, February 13, 2011, following a period of declining health.
Born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, May 28, 1934, she was the daughter of Ross D. and Charlotte C. Olson Mowatt.
Raised in Calais, she attended local schools and was a 1951 graduate of Calais Memorial High School. From 1951 to 1954, she attended the Madigan Memorial School of Nursing, earning her degree as a Registered Nurse.
On Valentine's Day, 1956, Burnett married John Young in Calais.
She worked in several hospitals throughout the state including the A. G. Gould Hospital in Presque Isle and Knox General Hospital as it developed into Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport. At the opening of PBMC Burnett helped establish the supplies, processing and distribution system at the hospital.
In conjunction with her full time nursing career, Burnett raised her family and was actively involved in their sports activities, including Brownie Scouts, and P.T.A.
After moving to Bangor with her husband in 1984, she worked with the American Red Cross and also served on the Red Cross Disaster Team until 1992. The couple returned to Rockland in 1993.
For more than 20 years, they enjoyed RV'ing and spending winters in Florida.
Burnett was a member of the Knox County Nurses Guild, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and enjoyed serving as a volunteer at the Owls Head Transportation Museum. She loved knitting, cooking and the Red Sox.
Predeceased by her husband John, March 7, 2010, Burnett is survived by a son, J. David Young and his wife Melinda of Dandridge, Tennessee; two daughters, Barbara and her husband Kenneth Rich, Jr. of Rockland, Kathryn Young of Mt. Kisco, New York; one brother, Carl Mowatt of Tampa, Florida; two sisters, Sue Lyons and her husband Lendall, Joan Corning all of Calais; and three grandchildren, Kaitlyn A. Young, Anna L. Rich and Makenzie R. Boylan, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Owls Head Transportation Museum, Route 73, Owls Head. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the Deans Cremains Garden, Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland.
Burnett's family greatly appreciates the support of her friends and neighbors and the care she received from the staff of the I. C. U. of Penobscot Bay Medical Center and the Special Care Units at Maine Medical Center.
