A graveside committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Village Cemetery, Thomaston. The Rev. Wayne Sawyer will officiate.
CUSHING - Walter T. Robinson, Sr., 68, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family after a long illness.
Born in Thomaston, May 10, 1942, he was the son of Ernest F. Sr., and Bertha B. Winslow Robinson. He was educated in Thomaston schools.
Although working all his adult life as a commercial fisherman, over those years, Walter worked at several other jobs. Some of these included National Sea Products in Rockland, and in the mid-1960s, he lived in Milford, CT, where he worked at a General Motors production facility.
July 16, 1960, he married Audrey M. Smith in Thomaston. She died January 17, 2004. He later married Linda D. Simmons Maloney in Cushing.
An all around outdoorsman, Walt was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. He particularly enjoyed camping at Duck Brook in Millinocket, where he was know as, 'The Mayor of Duck Brook'.
While his three sons were involved in sports he coached Little League and Farm League baseball teams. He later played on, managed and coached area men's ball teams, and in earlier years bowled on leagues at DePatsy's Lanes in Waldoboro and Oakland Park Lanes in Rockport.
Walt was an avid Red Sox fan and particularly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Other than his first wife, Walter was predeceased by three sisters, Katherine Schwab, Deborah Brochu, and Vivian Mansfield. He is survived by his wife Linda; three sons and their wives, Walter 'Tom', Jr. and Laurie, John and Kathy, Adam and Amy, all of Cushing; seven brothers and their wives, Percy and Gail, William, Sr. and Beverly, Ernest, Jr. and Sharon, Richard, all of Thomaston, Douglas and his companion Geraldine Wall of Rockland, Gregory 'Amoe' and Lura of Friendship, Randall of Cushing; five sisters and their husbands, Patricia Stone of Owls Head, Lista and Eugene Colson of Thomaston, Darlene and Otto Miller, Carrie Nelson, Janice and Ted Cotton all of Warren; six grandchildren, Justin and Zackary Robinson, Travis and Ashley Robinson, Rachel and Hannah Robinson; two great-grandchildren, Ashton and Audrey; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Walter's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the Thomaston Baptist Church. The Reverend Wayne Sawyer will officiate. Spring interment will be in the Village Cemetery, Thomaston.
