TEXARKANA, TEXAS - Mary D. Reed, 88, formerly of Rockland, Maine, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Christus St. Michaels Hospital.
Born in Wright, Kansas, November 2, 1932, she was the sixth of ten children of Daniel B. and Catherine Biernacki Downey.
She was educated in Wright area schools.
November 2, 1943, she married Raymond Leland Reed in Dodge City. The couple moved to Rockland, Maine in 1945, and resided on West Meadow Road, until in 2002, they moved to their son's home, in Texarkana. While living in Rockland, Mary worked at several area factories including Van Baalen's, Port Clyde Canning and Holmes Packing Company.
Mary enjoyed a close friendship with Frank and Ann Yahner of Rockland.
She was a long-time communicant of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Rockland.
Pre-deceased by her husband, on December 5, 2003, and one grandson Steven Reed, Mary is survived by three sons, Raymond Lee Reed and his wife Nancy of Aiken, SC, Donald Leroy Reed of Texarkana, William Joseph Reed and his wife Elaine of Chester, NJ; one sister, Barbara E. Lutz of Wright, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Robert Reed of Houston, TX, Matthew Reed of Lawrenceville, GA, Brian Reed of Texarkana, TX, Gerald Reed of Sulfur Springs, TX, Kenneth Reed of Seymore, IN, Eric Reed and Heather Reed both of Chester, NJ; great-grandchildren, Travis Reed of Aiken, SC, Oriana and Sebastian Reed both of Augusta, GA, Daniel Reed and Timothy Reed both of Lawrenceville, GA, Anastasia and Nathan Reed both of Sulfur Springs, TX, Jessica and Jolene Reed both of Seymour, IN; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A graveside will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 2, 2011, at Mountain View Cemetery, Mountain Street, Camden, Maine. The Reverend Mark Reinhardt will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
