Condolence From: Scott T Young • Boynton Beach, Florida
Condolence: Sail on!!! Dear Jane, Toby and family, I was saddened to hear of the passing of Ed. He will always hold a special place in our hearts. From being our neighbors back in the early 60's to my memories of sailing in Port Clyde with Toby and Ed. I think it was back in '76 or '77? A great time on the water. I only wished we had been on contact more thru the years and miles. Jane, be well, know you are in our prayers. We all think of you often, Marillyn Young-Richey Sons Bradley, John & David, Glenn and Scott

Condolence: We wonder what Mr. Ingalls would say about the "force of nature" today. We were planning to attend the funeral service but are socked in with lots of snow drifts. We are there in spirit and send our love and support to all of you. I woke up this morning with the memory of how lovingly Mr. Ingalls would detail Sandy's cars. He would transform the messy family-mobile from chaos to order. His great attention to detail and many other loving kindnesses will be sorely missed.

Condolence From: Donald E. Johnson • Haverhill, Ma.
Condolence: Twins Arnold Johnson of Groveland and Donald Johnson of Haverhill (boyhood friends of Ed and fellow sailors) recall their first ski trip ever to the mountains around 1942 when they were in high school. Ed, Bud Smith, and the twins arrived at Belknap Ski Area, now known as Gunstock, only to find the lifts closed because there were no other skiers. They persuaded someone to start the chairlift (a single) just for them. It was a great day on the slopes! Donald and Shirley Johnson fondly remember when Ed was a member of their wedding party sixty years ago today on March 16th. Ed leaves a wealth of good memories for many of us. With caring thoughts, the Johnsons

Condolence From: Edward Kazanjian • Belmont, MA
Condolence: I met Ed through Bob Pritchard and had the pleasure of sailing in Maine and the BVI with him. He was the consummate teacher about the sea and sailing and his few tunes on the concertina were not for mixed company. Will always his smile as he came through the hatch with a wee dram scotch for each of us after we completed a long, cold, rain swept sail to Hewitt's Island one October evening.

Condolence: Ed could talk even the most unwilling into a "little sail" for the afternoon. I am sure that when we all cross over to join him on the other shore, he will be there with that great big smile, his sailors bow-legs and he will, once again, take us on a most delightful little sail around the harbor.

Condolence: Toby & Family, Our thoughts & prayers are with you at this time. We feel very fortunate to have experienced our last visit with your Dad at your birthday dinner in Portland ME a while back. He was a sweet, very down to earth man & we really enjoyed spending time with both your parents that night. He also seemed to really enjoy being with all of Toby's friends and spoke of how proud he was of him. He will be missed but I'm sure that all of you will have the great pleasure of many happy memories. Love, Paula & Lu

Condolence: I had the pleasure of meeting Ed and Jane for the first time at their grandson Carl Eppich's wedding. We sat across the dinner table from them as strangers, and left the table as friends. I can only assume that this was the case for all the lives that Ed touched.

Condolence: Ed and Jane, You are the first grandparents my children came to know. Kelsey took her first steps on the porch of your Port Clyde home. Our first sailing trips were on the "Sojourn." Croquet games on the grassy front lawn at Port Clyde. Our delight at seeing your car arrive at Kip and Sandy's Sachem Village home as our adopted grandparents. We enjoyed a delicious meal with you at East Wind Inn, Tenants Harbor shortly before our departure from Maine to California. Paul recalls fondly when Kip, Ed, Paul and his father ventured into the woods north of Hanover to attend Tim Siegal's bachelor party. These are some of the wonderful times we shared with Ed and Jane. Thank you for blessing us with your friendship. Ed's smile and laughter will forever hold a tender place in our hearts. Love, The Sweigert Family

Condolence From: Ken & Betsy Pritchard • Wellesley, MA
Condolence: We will miss Ed greatly. There is little in life that we found more enjoyable than sitting on the porch in Port Clyde with Ed & Jane (drinking Port Clyder's) watching the sail boats and talking about life. (Jane, we still expect to be seeing you there.) Ed's sense of humor and ability to 'pun' almost anything were unmatched. Going out sailing with him on tours of the surrounding river, islands and general Penobscot Bay area were always a treat and a joy. One of my most enjoyable times with Ed was sailing to Hewitt's island with him and my dad and getting stuck for an extra day due to a storm. We had no food, but plenty of gin and managed to impose ourselves for dinner on some friends on the island. We stayed up late into the night talking and laughing. When we finally left, Ed fell in a 3 foot hole and calmly uttered his typical deadpan 'watch out for that last step'. Love always, Ken & Betsy
