Obituary for Mariann Holden

Print
UNION – Mariann Holden, 66, left this world peacefully, following a courageous battle with Cancer, Friday, October 12, 2018. Her loving brothers and niece were at her side.

Born in Huntington, New York, June 29, 1952, she was the daughter of Harry and Gertrude Holden. Raised in Northport NY and a graduate of Northport High School, she later attended Barrington College before earning her nursing degree.

For more than 35 years, Mariann served as a nurse on the Special Care Unit at Pen Bay Medical Center. Her sense of humor and outgoing personality made her a good fit as she cared for countless patients over the years.

Mariann loved music and the theatre, performing in a variety of performances at the Camden Civic Theatre and the Lincoln Theatre in Damariscotta over the years. Throughout her life, Mariann has enjoyed traveling to many places, visiting 12 different countries. Some of her favorite stops included Nepal, Switzerland, Holland, and Italy, along with visits to her ancestral roots of Norway and Great Britain. And she was always quick to jump in the car and take a road trip to visit her great nephews and nieces along the east coast, who enjoyed visits with their ‘Mimi.’

Predeceased by her father in 1993, her mother in 2015, and her nephew Harry in 2008; Mariann is survived by her brothers, Charles Holden and his wife Susan of Northport, NY, Harry Holden and his wife Suk Cha of Medford, NY; her nephews, Robert Holden and his wife Laura of East Northport, NY; Adam Holden and his wife Debbie of Massapequa, NY; her niece Heather Holden-Garcia and her husband David Garcia of Zurich, Switzerland; her great-nieces and great-nephews, Wade and Erik Holden; Abigail Garcia; Sarah and Parker Holden; and her special friends, Gina and Dan Schaeffer and their daughters, Alexys and Aubrey, and Don and Nancy Sabins all of Union.

A celebration of Mariann’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2018 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. She will be laid to rest beside her parents at Fairview Cemetery, Warren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mariann’s name to the Cancer Research Institute, https://www.cancerresearch.org/.
