Obituary for Dorothy Wheatley

ROCKLAND – Dorothy J. Wheatley, 89, died Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Sussman House in Rockport following an extended illness.

Born in Waltham, Massachusetts, June 19, 1929, she was the daughter of Hector G. and Minnie Fullerton Sanders.
Educated in local schools, Dorothy graduated from Dean Academy and Junior College, in June of 1949. In September of the following year, she completed a Navy Training Course at the U.S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois, and until her Honorable Discharge in May of 1953, served as a Hospital Corpsman. During the Korean War, Dorothy was base in Long Beach, CA.

She later completed training as a Registered Nurse and for several years worked in that capacity at Runnells Specialized Hospital in Berkeley Heights, NJ.

In earlier years, Dorothy enjoyed playing Golf and Tennis. Later she enjoyed traveling throughout the world.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was pre-deceased by a sister Margurite S. Strunk. She is survived by several second cousins including, Carolyn Perkins, Faye Doucette, Patricia Weaver, Bill Payson, Bobby Payson, Jerry Payson and Andy Payson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Pastor Mark Adolphsen will officiate. Interment will be at a late date in the Rural Cemetery, Walpole, Massachusetts.
