UNION – Alberta Ethel VanBrocklyn Nickles, 81, died peacefully, July 29, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her loving children, Manola, Carl, Kathy, Laurie, Romona, Jody, Ricky, Jean and Percy; her grandchildren, Austin, Megan, Charlie, Mike, Lee-Ann, Kerrigan, Bryent, Brent, Owen, Justice and Shelby; close friends, Cindy, Linda D., Linda J., Sherry, John, Andrew, Phillip, Meghan, Joyce, Steve S. and Valerie. Born in Carthage, New York, May 22, 1937, she was the daughter of Emery and Olive Crouse VanBrocklyn.

Bert was pre-deceased by her loving husband Carl Richard Nickles in April of 1997, her loving son David Wayne Nickles in February of 2003; two grandsons, Tom-Tom ‘TW’ and Keegan, as well as her best friend and Bingo buddy, Carole Impalomini.

Alberta and Carl moved to Maine in 1972, where she quickly learned where all the area Bingo halls were located. Going to Bingo, meeting new people, going to the Slots, watching Red-Sox baseball, WWF Wrestling and the game show ‘The Price Is Right’, were her favorite pastimes.

Known to many as ‘Bert’, she was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family. Going to the slots with her daughters, Jody and Laurie, was another favorite pastime.

Bert completed many things on her ‘bucket list’ – went back to school and earned her GED; was a contestant and ‘Christmas Showcase’ winner on the ‘The Price is Right’ gameshow in 2002, getting a chance to meet Bob Barker, and about a month before she passed away, attending a Sea Dogs game with her son Percy.

She worked as a chambermaid at the Navigator Motor Inn in Rockland, Borialis Bread and Moody’s Cabins in Waldoboro for Rev. Bob and Debbie Bellows, until she retired at the age of 72.

Alberta is survived by her children, Manola Carter and her husband Eugene ‘Bimbo’ and their family, Andrea, Jim, Jessica, Jamieson, Jaxon, Dana, Helen, Justice, Travis, Felichia, Savanah, Amy, Rob, Hailey and Mason; her son Carl Nickles and his wife Maria and their family Denise, Josh, Kayla, Ava, Nathaniel, Dwight, Amanda, Alexis, Damien, Carley and Payton; her daughter Kathy Collins and her companion Herb and Kathy’s children Charlie, Mike and grandson Caleb; her daughter Laurie Simmons and her husband Tommy and their family Brandie, Matt, Logan, Cyrus, Ashley, MJ., Whitney and Laurie’s granddaughter Isabella; her daughter Ramona Carter and her husband Norman and their family, Colleen, Lauren, Shelby, Quinntin, Leanne, Josh, Bryant, Owen, Olivia, Kenneth, Norma, Shawn, Elizabeth, Lukas, Jacob, Amanda, Andrew and Abel; her daughter Jody Nickles; her son Ricky Nickles and his wife Joyce and their family, Kristi, Jordan, Abrianna and Alanzo; her daughter Jeannie Collins and her husband Billy and their family, Megan, Derek, Austin, David, Rachel K., Stephanie, Levi M., Autumn, Andy and Bodhi; her son Percy Nickles and his companion Meghan and Percy’s daughter Kerrigan.
