Obituary for Larry Albert Small Sr.

WARREN - Larry A. Small, Sr., 67, husband of Carol Small, died unexpectedly at his home, Friday, June 29, 2018.

Born at home during a blizzard in Tenants Harbor on December 14th 1950, Larry was the son of Linwood Everett and Flo Louise (Getchell) Small. Larry had 2 brothers Leighton Small and Linwood Small and Sister Lena Rogers.

He attended elementary school in Tenants Harbor, then went to High School at Georges Valley in Thomaston. After graduating High School he enlisted in the Navy in 1969. Larry had a distinguished Military career and retired as E-8 Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1991 after 22 years of service.

After retiring from the Navy he moved his family to his home town of Tenants Harbor, where he fished and dove for urchins. He served his community as a member of the St. George Fire Department and as a Selectman for the Town of St. George. He also was a member of the Masons.

Larry is survived by his four children, Heather Lefebvre and husband Corey of Enterprise Alabama, Heidi Small and Fiancé Stephen Sukeforth of South Thomaston, Larry Small, Jr. and Wife Muna of Waterville, and Nathaniel Small and Wife Ashley of Rockland.

Larry is also survived by his wife since 2004 Carol Emerson. They moved to Warren and where Larry devoted his life to his children and grandchildren. His greatest joy in life was his grandchildren. He loved to rock them to sleep, and he built a special relationship with each grandchild. He never said NO to his grandchildren, he was known at the Best Papa in the world.

His grandchildren are Amelia Balukas, Douglas Anderson, Tyler Sukeforth, Lily Sukeforth, Larry Small III, Isabella Small, Sonny Small, Nathaniel Small, Jr., Adrian Small, Lukas Small, Krysta Mckinney, Arron Mckinney, Alyssa Lefebvre, PJ Lefebvre, Ashley Lefebvre and Devin Lefebvre. Besides spoiling grandchildren, he loved collecting coins, wood working, and renovation his home with Carol. He also enjoyed shooting guns.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Pastor William Hickey will officiate. Private interment with Military Honors will be held at Maine Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Augusta at a later date.
