Obituary for Mildred Ellen French

SOUTH THOMASTON - Mildred Ellen Bridges French passed from this world on June 23, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. Mildred spent her last days surrounded by her loved ones and receiving compassionate care by the dedicated staff at the Sussman House.

Mildred was born on June 29, 1937, the daughter of Leroy Bridges and Elodie Davis Bridges.

Mildred attended Rockland schools and married Stanley French on October 10, 1960 in Rockland. They were blessed to have twin daughters, Carol and Cheryl and 18 months later Charlene arrived completing the family.

The family lived in Rockland until 1978 when they moved to South Thomaston. Mildred remained in the family home, even after Stanley’s death in 1998, until ill health made it necessary to move to Woodlands Memory Care Center in 2014.

Mildred enjoyed sewing; making many of her daughters’ clothes when they were younger. She especially liked letting her girls pick out a pattern and the fabric, making clothes that were unique to her children.

Mildred loved to cook large family dinners and worked as a cook in several restaurants in town. Mildred’s children and grandchildren were the recipients of her homemade, beautifully decorated, birthday cakes.

Mildred was predeceased by her husband Stanley French, her parents, John Leroy Bridges and Elodie Bridges Nelson, her step-father John Nelson, her brothers Richard and Buddy and sister Mary.

Mildred is survived by her daughters, Carol Lynn French Brown and her husband Joseph Brown of Phoenix, AZ, Cheryl Ann French Weaver and her husband Dennis Weaver of Thomaston, ME and Charlene Mildred French and her fiancé Maurice Chevalier of Phoenix, AZ. Mildred is also survived by her brother Donald Bridges of Manchester, NH, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

As Mildred wished, services will be private and at the convenience of her family.
