HOPE – Jessie E. Jacobs, 81, died following an extended illness, at her home surrounded by her family, Friday, June 15, 2018. Born in Camden, May 3, 1937, she was the daughter of Horace and Leotia Pierce Josselyn. Educated in local schools she was a 1955 graduate of Camden High School, where she was proud to have been inducted into the National Honor Society.

Jessie worked hard all of her life doing a wide variety of jobs. She was food editor for The National Fisherman, and worked at Tibbetts Industries along with assorted odd jobs. Of course, most everyone knew Jessie best for her fabulous skills in the kitchen. These skills translated into a job at the Hope Elementary School and the Camden-Rockport School where Jessie became one of the beloved “lunch ladies”. In addition, many high school basketball players and coaches fondly recall the many high school team breakfasts that Jessie would host at her home in Hope. After Jessie retired, she started her own business with her husband Wilbur, where this dynamic duo made “Jessie’s Pies”.

Jessie loved many things in life. She could be found at home knitting mittens to donate to others or embroidering a gift for some yet unplanned event. Jessie loved her church, family and her friends. Some of her fondest memories were camping with her children, especially taking her grandchildren on some new camping adventure. Jessie also loved travelling with Wilbur and was blessed to have good friends, Joyce and George Buchanan, as companions on many trips including, Alaska, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Missouri, the Grand Canyon, and driving across the U.S. Jessie also had a close bond with her life-long friend, Anita Reynolds.

Other than her parents, Jessie was pre-deceased by a daughter, Carol Sue Gardner in 2013 and a granddaughter, Casandra Locke in 2006. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, H. Wilbur Jacobs; her children, Scott McIntyre and his wife Susan of Hope, Hank Jacobs, Jr, and his wife Tammy of Westbrook, Debra McIntyre and her husband Paul Leeper of Searsmont, Tina Merrifield and her husband Larry of Hope, Rose Hubbard and her husband Ronald of Unity; her grandchildren, Zac McIntyre, Stephanie Tuttle, Miranda Bevan, Robert Merrifield, Carl Locke and Joshua Locke; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Carver of Camden, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A Celebration of Jessie’s Life will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 20th, at the West Rockport Baptist Church, 545 Park Street.
