Obituary for Bruce Joseph Curit

CAMDEN – Bruce J. Curit 64, died unexpectedly, following a courageous battle with COPD, Friday, May 25, 2018.
Born in Camden, March 16, 1954, he was the son of Lawrence and Phyllis Burridge Curit. Bruce attended Camden Schools and has been a life-long Camden resident.
He was a ‘Jack-of-All Trades’ and knew how to fix anything. For many years he worked in the construction industry and also with Bruce White Painting Company. He was a skilled mechanic, and his daughter remembered he could diagnose and fix a car’s problem just by listening to the noise it made, sometimes even over the phone.
On August 18, 2001 Bruce married the love of his life, Sally Alves. Together for over 19 years, Sally could not remember a time when Bruce ever got mad or upset at her. He was her ‘Papa Bear’.
He loved the great-outdoors, and could be found in his favorite boat, fishing and camping. During quieter moments, he enjoyed building models.
Bruce was down to earth and honest, and most of all a jokester. He loved to razz others and was well known for his pranks. You knew you were truly loved if he was harassing you. His family was his pride and joy and they meant the world to him. He hated to see people argue and he worked hard at being the family peacekeeper. When his brother, Butch passed away in 2011, Bruce lost his best friend.
Bruce will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
Predeceased by his parents; his brother Lawrence ‘Butch’ Curit, Sr.; and a brother-in-law, Peter DeVore; Bruce is survived by his wife Sally Curit of Camden; his children, Kenneth Curit of Thomaston, Kevin Curit of Rockport, Katerina Campbell of Rockport, Scott Curit of Rockland; two step-children, Adrienne York and her husband Rick of Belfast, Cindy Haskell of Rockland; his sister Nancy DeVore of Unity; 14 grandchildren, James Leathers, Andrew Campbell, Gifford Campbell, Joseph Morse, Caleb Curit, Carson Curit, Ayla Curit, Christian Curit, Aidan Curit, Mark DiFino, Kaitlyn Haskell, Desmond Haskell, Wyatt York, and Richard York; five great-grandchildren, Peyton, Piper, Paisley, Emmett and Jaxson; a sister-in-law Brenda Coppage of Naples, FL; a dear friend who was like a daughter, Liz Barter Weed of Lincolnville; as well as too many friends to count.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
