ROCKLAND – Marjorie Ellen Mills, 100, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Rockland, February 25, 1918, she was the daughter of Frank F. and Hattie Foss Richards. After moving to Thomaston at the age of six, she was educated in local schools and was a 1936 graduate of Thomaston High School. Marjorie graduated in 1940 from Providence (RI) Bible Institute.

She worked at F.W. Woolworth Co. and J.J. Newberry, both in Rockland, before and after attending PBI.
On December 23, 1945, she married Douglass G. Mills at First Baptist Church in Rockland. The couple made their home in Thomaston, where they raised their two children.

As well as being a devoted wife and mother, Marjorie cared for and babysat many children in her home. For more than 62 years, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Rockland where she taught Sunday school, Pioneer Girls, served as a Deaconess and held many other church offices and duties. More recently she was a member at West Rockport Baptist Church.

She often made decorations for church events and enjoyed decorating her home, particularly at Christmas. She also enjoyed sewing and made many of her children’s clothing as they were growing up.

In more recent years, she enjoyed walking every day from her home to Rock City Café, where she enjoyed a cup of coffee and muffin. This past February 26th, Marjorie enjoyed the festivities of her 100th birthday party at her home. During that party she was thrilled to receive many friends and loved ones. The week prior she was presented with a State of Maine Legislative Certificate of Proclamation recognizing her special day by Senator David R. Miramant and Representative Pinny Beebe-Center.

Other than her parents, Marjorie was pre-deceased by her husband, Douglass G. Mills, Sr. in 1996. She is survived by her son Douglass G. Mills, II of Rockland; her daughter Margaret ‘Peggy’ Arnold and her husband Thomas of Arlington Heights, IL; eight grandchildren, Renée Mills, River Radley and her husband Gerald, David Mills, Heidi Mills, David Arnold, Ruth Long and her husband Alan, Timothy Arnold and his wife Amy, John Arnold and eight great-grandchildren.

A Praise Service honoring the Lord’s blessing of Marjorie’s life will be held at 7:00p.m., Monday, April 30, 2018 at the West Rockport Baptist Church, 545 Park Street, West Rockport. The Reverend David English will officiate. Private interment will be in Village Cemetery, Thomaston.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to West Rockport Baptist Church, P. O. Box 221, West Rockport, ME 04856.
