APPLETON – Floyd B. Conant, Jr., 77, passed peacefully into God’s presence early Sunday morning, March 11, 2018 at the Sussman House in Rockport, with family at his side.

Floyd (also known as Buddy or Cony) was born in Port Clyde, February 21, 1941 to Floyd B., Sr. and Florence (Simmons) Conant. He was a member of the Advent Christian Church of Port Clyde. He graduated from St. George High School, class of 1959, and was an excellent baseball player and musician, playing the trumpet and baritone.

Floyd was a Lobsterman out of Port Clyde, a Commercial Fisherman up and down the Maine coast, a Fine Boat Builder, and later a Finish Carpenter. He learned these trades from his father and his grandfather, Calvin Simmons, and from self-taught hard work. He had an amazing ability to learn and retain skills and willingly shared his knowledge with others. Floyd thoroughly enjoyed many outdoor year-round activities in Maine including hunting, fishing and golfing. He and his wife were avid gardeners, campers and liked to take day trips to the coast. Mostly, he enjoyed time with family and friends, and telling stories passed down from generation to generation, often with a generous sense of humor. One of his other passions and a final gift made to his children and grand-children, with assistance from his brother, was the family genealogy which took him all the way back to Roger Conant, the first Governor and founder of Salem, Massachusetts, and beyond to the Conant’s in England.

Floyd is predeceased by his parents, and sister Virginia (Condon) Smith. He is survived by his wife Helen (Cullicutt) Conant of Appleton; brother Charles Oakes of St. George; son Alan Conant of Portland; daughter Annette (Conant) Leathers of Owls Head; son Todd Conant and his fiancé Pauline McWilliams of Rockport; step-children: Kurt Burdin of Greenville, Shawn Burdin and wife Debbie of Dexter, and Dawn Cook and husband Jarrod of Lincolnville; four grandchildren: Amber (Conant) Pelletier, Benjamin Conant, Tyler Conant and Jenna Conant; step-grandchildren: Jasmine Douglass and Isaac Burdin; and two great-grandchildren: Cynthia Rose Pelletier and Garrick James Pelletier. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family wishes to acknowledge special thanks to PBMC Special Care Unit, MMC Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and Cardiac Team, LifeFlight of Maine, and Sussman House, Rockport for their excellent and compassionate care during the last months and days of his life. Also, to the many family and friends who supported him in thoughts and prayers.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to LifeFlight of Maine or to Sussman House, Rockport.
At Floyd’s request there will be no visitation or memorial services. A graveside service will be held at a later date this spring at the Ridge Cemetery, Martinsville. Arrangements are with Burpee Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland.
