ROCKLAND – Alma Louise (Smith) Cobb, 93, died peacefully, Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport.
Born in Orrington, June 11, 1924, she was the daughter of Milton and Lillian Agnes Cox Smith. Alma lived in Orrington before moving to Houlton until her high school years. She later graduated from Kennebunk High School with the class of 1942.
On December 6, 1943, she married Chandler Bennett Cobb. Alma was a devoted mother, and worked tirelessly caring for her family as a stay-at-home mom while her children were growing up.
For more than 40 years Alma made her home in Kittery where she was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Kittery Point. An extremely talented woman, Alma was well known for her award-winning hand braided rugs.
Following the death of her beloved husband, Alma moved to Westbrook where she resided for seven years.
Alma was pleased to have the opportunity and greatly enjoyed living with her daughter and son-in-law for eight years before moving most recently to the Woodlands Memory Care Center in the spring of 2015.
Predeceased by her husband Chandler in 1999; her brother Preston M. Smith in 2009; and a special friend Bill Robertson of Westbrook in 2009; Alma is survived by her children, Calvin and his wife Linda of East Hampton CT, Shary Lynn Fellows and her husband Kevin of Rockland; her five grandchildren, Vicki Puciato and her husband Thomas, David Cobb, Paula Cobb and her companion Dwayne Lott, Steven Fellows and his wife Stephanie Michaud, Bennett Fellows and his wife Ryan; and four great-grandchildren, Alana Puciato, Devin Cobb, Roland Fellows and Tristan Fellows.
Alma’s family would like to express their appreciation to the caring staff at Woodlands Memory Care in Rockland and the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport.
There are no services planned at this time; her family has chosen to remember her life privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either, Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601; or Knox County Hospice Volunteer Auxiliary, (for benefit of Sussman House volunteers), c/o MaineHealth Care at Home, 15 Industrial Park Road, Saco, Maine 04872.
