THOMASTON – Patricia ‘Pat’ Mayo, 80, died surrounded by her loving family, Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Rockland, April 26, 1937, she was the daughter of James and Athlene McConchie Pease. Educated locally, Pat was a 1955 graduate of Rockland High School. Following graduation she attended the University of Maine at Orono. Shortly thereafter, Pat met Michael Mayo, a GI returning home from 2 years in the service, while hanging out with friends. Following their courtship, Pat and Mike were married on October 22, 1960 at the Congregational Church in Rockland. Together they have made their home in Thomaston for over 57 years.

Ever the consummate homemaker, Pat loved nothing more than caring for her family. She kept busy raising four children, working when they were young at the phone company and in the kitchen at Knox Hospital. Her children remember with great fondness, the dinner bell that their mother rang each night to call them home to dinner. Together they would race home, and more often than not, it was not just the four Mayo kids who arrived in Pat’s kitchen ready to be fed. Her door was always open and there was always room at the table for one more. She was a wonderful cook, and delighted in making fresh bread that she used to pack her children’s lunches each day.

One of Pat’s favorite pastime was quilting and sewing. She made many beautiful quilts, pillowcases and placemats that she gave away as gifts. Often friends and family would tell her she should sell her creations, but Pat insisted on giving them away, never wanting to sell anything; she always said ‘a handmade quilt is like a hug from home.’ Pat had a heart for serving others, and gave regularly to the local AIO Food Pantry.
Traveling and camping brought great pleasure to Pat and Mike. Together they enjoyed wintering in their motorhome in Florida as well as taking their grandkids camping at the State Parks in Maine. She loved going to the beach, especially the ocean, and was happiest with her toes in the water.

She was a very social person, and loved spending time with her two best friends from childhood, Judy Smith and Erma Hendricks. She also enjoyed going to luncheons and gatherings with the Red Hat Society, both locally and in Florida. For many years Pat has treasured the life-long friendships she formed with the tight-knit group of friends and families on Beechwood Street. She cherished each and everyone one of you, and there are too many to mention by name.

Pats greatest love in life was her family. She loved nothing more than being with them and having them at her side. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by a sister Judith Pease; Pat is survived by her husband Michael ‘Mike’ Mayo, Sr. of Thomaston; his children, Michael Mayo, Jr. and his wife Lori, Michelle 'Shelly' Henry and her husband Dwight all of Thomaston, Katherine 'Kathy' Mayo-Reese and her husband John Reese of Steuben, Daniel Mayo and his companion Sherri MacLaren of Winterport; ten grandchildren, Morgan Mayo, Desirée Mayo and her fiancé Benjamin Emmott, Justin Henry, Cameron Henry, Stephen Strout and his fiancé Michaela Martin, Kassandra Strout and her companion Jeb Zelina, Gabrielle Mayo, Kaylee Mayo, Molly Mayo, Gracie Mayo; two great-grandchildren, Tobe Sargent, Keziah Zelina, and one more on the way; her brother Jethro Pease and his wife Diana of Morrill; and sister Barbara Knight and her husband Charles of Rockport; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invite to visit from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland where a Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 6, 2018.
