Obituary for Josephine C. 'Josie' Johnson

Print
ROCKLAND - Josephine L. Johnson passed away on March 7, 2018 at the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland, just three days before her eighty-ninth birthday.

She had suffered from Parkinson’s related dementia, but her youthful spirit always broke through with characteristic grace. Josie greeted life with candor and style, and her affable nature will no doubt carry her graciously through the next life as it has in this one. She will be happy to be re-united with her Maker, and her beloved husband, Raymond, who predeceased her in August 2015 after 66 years of marriage.

Josephine was born on March 10, 1929 in Hartford, CT, the middle child and third daughter of Angelo and Lucie Cantone. She attended school and worked as a bookkeeper in the insurance industry in the Hartford area. She married Raymond Johnson in 1949, and they moved to Maine in 1976, eventually making their home in Tenant’s Harbor. Josie had been a bookkeeper at Arvidson’s Furniture. She and Ray had many good years living by the sea, traveling and visiting family and friends. Josie had most recently resided at Bartlett Woods.

Josephine was predeceased by her two sisters and two brothers - her Connecticut Family: Ann Glofka, of Windsor; Angie Manoogian of West Hartford; Joseph Cantone of Weathersfield; and Frankie Cantone of Salem. Josie will be missed by nieces Carol Thomas of Cochise, AZ, and Sandra Pearce of Fargo, ND. She will be fondly remembered by nephews Edward Glofka, Jr. and Arthur Manoogian, cousin Gaye, and dear friends scattered all across the country.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Friday, March 23, 2018, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Josie will be interred at a later date with her husband at the Ridge Cemetery, Martinsville.
