ROCKLAND – Evelyn Bartlett Watrous, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep, February 17, 2018 at Windward Gardens Center in Camden. Born in Rockland, April 12, 1922, she was the daughter of Norris Crockett, Sr., and Evelyn Winslow Bartlett.
Evelyn attended local schools and was a 1940 graduate of Rockland High School.
Evelyn loved her family and always kept in close touch with them. She was a member of the Baptist Church in New London, CT and the First Baptist Church of Rockland, ME. The church was a very important part of her life. In later years, she attended church services in her assisted living home at Windward Gardens.
As a young woman, Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper for Woolworth’s Five and Ten and a salesperson for
J.J. Newbury in Rockland. She later worked as a bookkeeper for the school system in Groton, CT.
Evelyn was very well cared for by the staff at Windward Gardens of which she was grateful.
Other than her parents, Evelyn was pre-deceased by three husbands, Richard Bailey Fisher, Arthur Williams, Leonard W. Watrous; a sister Joan Bartlett; two brothers, Frederick Sheridan Bartlett and Norris Bartlett. She is survived by three sisters, Norene Bartlett Laatz of Camden, Adelaide Bartlett McKenney of Katy, TX, Marion Bartlett Seidner of Camden; four brothers and their wives, George and Kathy Bartlett of Rockland, Arthur and Priscilla Bartlett of St. George, Robert and Regina Bartlett of Dade City, FL, Donald and Bonnie Bartlett of Litchfield; nieces and nephews including Wilma Bartlett Rico of Half Moon Bay, CA, Frederick Bartlett and his wife Tina of Prescott, AZ, Lawrence Bartlett and his wife Virginia of Bath, Sharon Vargas Hanley and her companion Butch Wall of Rockport, Richard Vargas and his wife Joan, Tracie Barter all of Thomaston, Susan Laatz of Newport, Linda McKenney of Katy, TX, David Schwartz of Houston, TX, Alan Schwartz and his wife Chrissy of Seabrook, TX, as well as many grand nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, May 11, 2018, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. The Reverend Wayne Sawyer will officiate. Interment will follow in Achorn Cemetery, Rockland.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Pen Bay Medical Center, Emergency Department, C/O Pen Bay Waldo Healthcare Foundation, 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841.
