VALLEY TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA - Joyce Barnes Heal, 83, died Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Pennsylvania, after a brief illness. At the time of her death, her beloved husband of 52 years, Lionel, and her two children, Mark Runius and Heidi Heal Bonner, were by her side.

Joyce was born February 26, 1934 in St. George to Floyd W. and Marion Mossman Barnes. After graduating from St. George High School in 1951, she worked as a secretary at both Algin Corporation in Rockland and Bethlehem Steel in Quincy, Massachusetts.

In 1963, Joyce returned to Maine where she owned and operated the Rockland Motel in Glen Cove for fifteen years. In 1979, Joyce began working at the Mary E. Taylor Middle School in Camden as a teacher's aide. She went on to become the administrative assistant at the school, and worked there for twenty-five years before retiring in 2004. Following her retirement, she and Lionel spent their winters in Dunedin, Florida for ten years. In 2014, she and Lionel moved from Maine to Pennsylvania to be near to their daughter.

Joyce loved to dance, and some of her favorite memories were of time spent dancing with Lionel at Echo Hill Lodge and her retirement community dances in Florida. She loved her job at the Middle School, too, especially being able to develop strong friendships with many colleagues over the years.

Joyce is survived by her husband Lionel of Valley Township, PA; son Mark and his wife Lauri of Warren; daughter Heidi and her husband Tom of Chester Springs, PA; her grandchildren, Ben and his wife Samantha, Meghan, all of Rockland, Michael, Aidan and Matthew all of Chester Springs. She was also close to her nephew, David and his wife Linda. She was predeceased by her parents and a sister Shirley.

There will be a committal service held at Ridge Cemetery this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Joyce's memory to either, Bob Gagnon Cancer Fund, c/o Pen Bay Healthcare, 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841, or The Hyssongs, P.O. Box 525, Rockport, Maine, 04856. Joyce always enjoyed hearing their musical ministry.

Local arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockalnd.
