UNION – Granville R. Knowles, 88, died peacefully at his home, Thursday, January 18, 2018.

Granville was born and raised in Farmington, Maine. After graduating high school, he joined the Army. Upon marrying Barbara Lamkin, they moved to Greenwich, Connecticut, where they raised their family. For 30 years he worked with the Town of Greenwich Highway Department, retiring in 1985. Following his retirement, with his wife, Granville returned to Maine, and rather than sitting idle, worked more than twenty years with Shaw’s Supermarket in Rockland. In his work with Shaw’s he was recognized by many as an ambassador of good will for that company and was often thanked by many of the customers.

His greatest joy and achievement was his family.

Predeceased by his son Rodney and daughter Marjorie, Granville is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara of Union; their three children, Deborah Vitiello and her husband Neil of Riverside, CT, , Renée Capalbo and her husband John of Rockport, David Knowles and his wife Laurie of Norwalk, CT; six grandchildren, Samatha Giordano of Branford, CT, Amanda Bria Karnsomtob of Cos Cob, CT, Joseph Bria of Montville, Carolyn Knowles, Douglas Knowles, Thomas Knowles all of Norwalk, CT; and three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Bria of Cos Cob, CT, Carlo and Imani Bria of Jacksonville, NC.
