UNION – Ruthie A. Hilt, 70, beloved wife of the late Philip Hilt, Sr., died surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness, Sunday, December 10, 2017 at The Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Thomaston April 30, 1947, she was the daughter of Thomas and Dorothy Snow Horsley.

Ruthie was educated in Thomaston schools. She began work at Sylvania’s in Waldoboro, Fullers Trading Post in South Hope, and Whitehall Inn, Camden, but her greatest job was being a housewife, mother and grandmother.

One of Ruthie’s greatest passions was spending time with family, especially with her grandchildren, all affectionately referring to her as Nanny.

Ruthie loved computer games, Facebook, reading and living life to the fullest.

On November 15, 1969 Ruthie married Philip Hilt, Sr. The couple enjoyed raising their family, yard-saleing and gardening, but most of all spending time together. For many years Ruthie assisted her husband, volunteering many hours with the Union Fire Department and Union Ambulance.

Ruthie and Philip’s door was always open to anyone. Ruthie was a neighborhood mother, where anybody, young or old, could go and feel loved and welcome! She was a great listener. A warm-hearted and straight shooter, she would tell you her opinion, even if you didn’t want the answer.

Predeceased by her loving husband Phil, her parents Thomas and Dorothy Horsley, her in-laws Donald and Athlene Hilt, Ruthie is survived by her two sons, Glen T. Hilt and his wife Julie of South Thomaston, Philip D. Hilt, Jr. of South Portland; her daughter, Amy Stelzer and her husband Larry of Jefferson; six siblings, Clifton Weaver and his wife Ragna, Betty Small, Priscilla Scott, Katherine Weymouth, Linda Taylor and her husband Larry, Francis Weaver and the late Patricia Weaver; eight grandchildren, Alexia Hilt of Friendship, Isabell Hilt of Bath, Emily, Tamra Miller of South Thomaston, McKenzie and Tanner Hilt of Camden, Kiya and Eilee Stelzer of Jefferson; one sister-in-law Diane Poland and her husband Richard; five brothers-in-law, Donald Hilt, Jr. and his wife Margaret, Sherwood Hilt and his wife Barbara, Keith Hilt and his wife Debra, David Hilt and his companion Michelle Upton, Benjamin Hilt and his wife Kris; a special adopted daughter Heather Fuller; special friends, Jesse Morgan, Brenda and Kenny Curtis, Alielia Hilt-Lash and Melissa Reed, as well as many nieces and nephews and her fur baby, Babe.
