Obituary for Beulah Joan Mackie
ROCKLAND – Beulah J. Mackie, 80, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Knox Center for Long Term Care.
Born in Rockland, August 28, 1937, she was the daughter of Fred and Myrtle Thomas Ott. Beulah was born in the same house she lived in her entire life. She attended Rockland schools, leaving school to enter the work force to help support her family.
On October 1, 1958, Beulah married Robert F. Mackie when he returned home from the service. Together they made a great pair, raising their son, and enjoying life together.
Beulah has always been a hard worker, and has worked at several local laundromats over the years, including Peoples Laundry and Chickadee.
She was quiet and reserved and enjoyed putting together puzzles and going ‘visiting’ with Bob on Sundays. She looked forward to family suppers, cook-outs and birthday parties for the kids in the family.
Beulah’s humble nature was evident after her family threw she and Bob a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party. She could not believe they had gone through all of that planning for her. She said it was one of the nicest things anyone had ever done for her.
Beulah’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and enjoying the company of her beloved husband of 59 years.
She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
Predeceased by her brothers, Richard, Sheik, Donald, and George Ott; and a sister Barbara Blair; Beulah is survived by her husband Robert F. Mackie of Rockland; her son Robert T. Mackie and his wife Carol of South Thomaston; two grandchildren, Jennifer Curtis, Holly Roberts; five great-grandchildren, Julia, Jaxon, Jaelynn, Maxwell, and David; her sisters-in-law Patty Ott of Warren, Sylvia Mason of Topsham, Brenda Ott of Rockland; a brother-in-law Thomas Mackie and his wife Bonnie of South Thomaston; as well as many niece and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a service at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Rev. Michelle Wiley will officiate.
