Obituary for Peter E. Thompson

Peter E. Thompson
ROCKLAND – Peter E. Thompson, 74, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. Peter was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on July 23, 1943.

Peter moved to Spruce Head shortly after meeting the love of his life, Karen A. Waldron. Together the loving couple built their home in Spruce Head where they raised their family and watched their grandchildren grow.
Peter was a man of many skills and trades. In his early years he attended Springfield Technical School where he received his certificate as a General Motors Mechanic. He utilized this trade in the early 1960’s before moving on to something new. Accepting a maintenance position at Marine Colloids (FMC), he was employed there for 32 years before retiring. During that time, he was promoted from maintenance man to maintenance foreman.

Following retirement Peter started his own business, utilizing another one of his many trades in the electrical industry. P.T. Electric was founded in 1995 and with the help of his family and friends Peter ran a successful business.

Mic Mac Campground was a place near and dear to Peter’s heart. He spent many years assisting with the Boys Club at Mic Mac before placing his own camper on the property. Later, his son Craig would go on to place his own camper directly next door, ensuring family was never far away. Peter spent many summers at the camp ground with his son and his grandchildren. The neighboring campers became close friends as well, another aspect Peter enjoyed.

Peter was a proud supporter and longtime member of the Midcoast Shrine Club.

Predeceased by his sister Sandra Thompson, and his brother David Thompson, Peter is survived by his son, Craig A. Thompson and his companion Kim Beaulieu of Spruce Head; three grandchildren, Corey W. Thompson and his wife Rebecca, Travis C. Thompson all of Spruce Head, Ashley A. Thompson of Vinalhaven; two great-grandchildren, Caroline Irene Lyon and Charley Rose Thompson; the mother of his grandchildren, Valerie Brackett of Spruce Head, as well as several nieces and nephews.
