PORT CLYDE – Verona B. Curtis, 87, died peacefully, Friday, September 29, 2017 at Woodlands Memory Care of Rockland, following a long illness.

‘Bone’ as she was known by her family and many friends, was a name one of her grandchildren gave her because they couldn’t pronounce Verona. She was born August 2, 1930 in Portland and was the daughter of Clayton and Verona Watt Miller.

For many years, Verona was employed with 40 Fathoms, and later National Sea Products, working until that plant closed in 1990. It was then that Verona earned her GED as well as completing a C.N.A. course. From that time forward, she was employed with Camden Health Care until her retirement.

An avid gardener, she kept beautiful flower and vegetable gardens around her home. She also loved caring for the birds.

Predeceased by her husband, Harry Curtis in 1974; her long-time companion Alfred ‘Jr.’ Morris in 1997; an infant son, Harry; her son Scottie in 2003; a grandson Sheldon in 2017; two brothers, Winslow and Donald Miller; and a son-in-law Oliver ‘Jim’ Dennison; Verona is survived by her son, Wayne Curtis and his wife Carol of Port Clyde; her daughters, Gloria Dennison of South Thomaston, Rosanne Ausplund and her husband Mark of Tenants Harbor; one sister Thelma Berry of Hyannis, MA; a sister-in-law Carlene Wiley of Waldoboro; six grandchildren, Craig, Christopher, Amy, Neala, Magan, Michael; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Woodlands for their friendship and excellent care during Verona’s stay.

Mrs. Curtis’ family has chosen to remember her life privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George Firefighters and Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 249, Tenants Harbor, ME 04860; or Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, Maine 04841.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
