Obituary for Robert 'Steve' Scott

Robert 'Steve' Scott
Tenants Harbor– Robert Stephen ‘Steve’ Scott died on September 22, 2017 at the Woodlands Memory Care Center in Rockland, after an extended illness. He was 85.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 21, 1931, he was the son of Theodore R. and Elizabeth Nichols Scott. He grew up in Northport, NY and graduated from Northport High School in 1950. He went on to study at the University of Vermont graduating in 1954 with a B.S. in Agriculture.

Robert married Valeska Utgoff in 1954. Together they raised their family in Northport, NY where Robert had a successful real estate business as well as a boat rental company. Robert and his family spent many summers vacationing in the St. George area and they moved there permanently in 1977. He continued to sell real estate in Midcoast Maine and served as the Harbor Master in St. George for many years.

Robert had a warm, friendly, outgoing personality and could often be found chatting with friends over coffee at Farmer’s Restaurant or the Port Clyde General Store for hours on end. He had a lifelong love of boats and as a young man raced them in Northport Harbor and the Hudson River. He collected antique guns and bought and sold various other antiques. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. in Tenants Harbor.

Predeceased by his sister Ann Elizabeth Scott and his daughter Stephanie Scott; Steve is survived by his sons, Theodore Scott and his wife Vicki of West Rockport, Stephen R. Scott and his wife Nancy of Tenants Harbor, Brian Scott of Tenants Harbor; nine grandchildren, Stephen C. Scott, Tynesha Johnson, Jessica Goodell, Morgan Scott, Ariana Scott, Victoria Scott, Julia Scott, Hannah Scott and Robert Scott, as well as six-great grandchildren.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 4:00 PM, Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A reception will be held immediately following at 104 Limerock, adjacent to the funeral home. Private interment at Seaside Cemetery will be held at a later date.
