Condolences & Tributes

We encourage you to share any memorable photos or stories about Mary Ellen. All tributes placed on and purchased through this memorial website will remain on in perpetuity for future generations.

In thinking about Mary Ellen and our years together in "The Book Group" (where we discussed philosophy, politics, psychology, education -- and yes, our choice of book for that month), we also talked about ourselves and our families. Although Mary Ellen was an accomplished woman with an excellent education and career, it was her role as mother and grandmother which was of most importance and brought her the most joy. The last time I was at her house she was showing us some items which she was getting together for Christmas gifts and was so cheerful and happy as she described how they would fit one of the individuals or families. In some large families individuals get lost, but not with Mary Ellen. Each member of her family was a cherished individual.

My life has been made richer by our friendship. She will be missed.

It was a blessing to be the neighbors and friends of Ken and Mary Ellen for more than 20 years, two of the finest people I've ever known. I will miss her profoundly. My deepest sympathy to you all. I'm so sorry not to be in Maine for the memorial service but so grateful to have spent some time with her in August. Please let me know if there is anything at all I can do for you. My thoughts are with you.
